AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION SPOKESPERSON, AUTHOR AND EXPERT ON
CHILDHOOD NUTRITION AND OBESITY TO APPEAR IN ORLANDO ON NOVEMBER
3rd, 2006
RONNI LITZ JULIEN, MS, RD/LDN, NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED NUTRITIONIST,
REGISTERED DIETITIAN, AUTHOR AND EXPERT ON CHILDHOOD NUTRITION AND
OBESITY TO APPEAR AT THE 83rd ANNUAL FLORIDA PTA CONVENTION
ORLANDO, FL – Just weeks after former President Clinton’s
announced a new breakthrough collaboration for a healthier
generation of children, and Disney announced a move to introduce
healthier guidelines for its licensed foods, Ronni Litz Julien
(MS, RD/LDN), an expert on Childhood Nutrition and Obesity, will
be appearing at the 83rd Annual Florida PTA Convention,
November 3rd to 5th, 2006, promoting the message of reducing
childhood obesity and teaching children how to eat healthily.
Julien, who was recently appointed as South Florida Spokesperson
for the American Heart Association Childhood Obesity and Alliance
for a Healthier Generation, will be promoting her latest book, a
must-read guide for all parents, caregivers and educators called
“What Should I Feed My Kids? How to Keep Your Children Healthy By
Teaching Them To Eat Right” (Career Press, 2006).
With almost 35% of American children overweight and another 8.6
million children obese, Julien’s advice to parents and educators
could not come at a better time. Children as young as 6 are being
diagnosed with diabetes, eating disorders and serious health
problems. Combined with the proliferation of media, less exercise,
harried parents working longer hours and everything to-go, it’s an
instant recipe for a generation of unhealthy children. Julien
comments that “unless a radical shift is made in the way we feed
our children - right now - we will be creating an entire future
generation of obese adults as well”.
Julien has dedicated her professional life to teaching healthy
eating habits to all ages, and runs workshops and seminars for
parents and families. Julien also educates children and adults on
how to develop lifelong behavioral changes, creating nutrition
lifestyles that are realistic, and simple to manage.
Julien will be on hand at the 83rd annual Florida PTA Convention
to give advice to PTA members, educators and parents from around
the state on topics such as, teaching children to eat properly
with sound nutritional advice, what to feed growing teens,
dispelling generational myths about over-feeding, the difference
between want and need, and the infamous “finish everything on your
plate” guilt-trip. Her advice to parents and educators everywhere
is to learn to become role-models.
Eating habits formed early in life are often carried into well
into adulthood. Unfortunately, the likelihood of an obese child
becoming an obese adult continues to increase with age. Most
frightening though, is the very real risk of health problems that
plague the obese, which include heart disease, diabetes and
cancer. Julien hopes that her book and her message will bring this
endemic problem to the forefront and bring about immediate changes
in the way that American children are fed.
The 83rd Annual Florida PTA convention will be held at the
International Plaza Resort and Spa (formerly Sheraton World
Resort) on November 3rd through November 5th 2006.
